Fellowships

 

Capturing best practice and experiences

Fellowships are awarded on an ad-hoc basis, to outstanding public servants who have made significant contributions to the development of the public sector in their home countries and whose work is aligned with our strategic objectives. Fellows undertake a period of study, reflection, and engagement of up to 6 months with scholars and students at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. They use their time at the school to further develop their understanding of specific policy issues and solutions and to reflect on practices in other countries.

Fellows codify their learning and experience through policy papers and briefs and share their findings through a workshop or lecture, some of which you can watch on this page.

Past Fellows

  • Professor Attahiru Jega

    2016 – 2017 Fellow

    Professor Attahiru Jega, former Executive Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was the inaugural Africa Initiative for Governance Fellow of Practice. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Political Science, Bayero University, and Kano and has published extensively on Nigerian politics, elections, democratisation, and transition to democracy.

  • Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood (Retired)

    2017 – 2018 Fellow

    Justice Mrs Georgina Wood was first woman to occupy the position of Chief Justice of Ghana. She is a currently a member of the Council of State of Ghana – a body established under the country’s Constitution to counsel the President in the performance of his functions. She also serves on the boards of international justice and human rights organisations such as the Global Justice Center.

  • Mrs Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru

    2018 – 2019 Fellow

    Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, served as Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Chairman of the Joint Tax Board, which she led meritoriously for two consecutive terms. In this role, Ifueko was the first female Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Chairman of the Joint Tax Board (JTB) comprising representatives of all taxing tiers of Government in Nigeria
